Academics & Innovation

Berkeley County School District’s Division of Academics and Innovation is committed to providing a future-focused vision on education through next-generation learning. We are dedicated to ensuring that all students are college, career and life-ready when they graduate from BCSD by incorporating approaches that are rooted in rigorous college and career-ready outcomes.

Administrative Services - Schools

The Office of Administrative Services - Schools contributes to the overall educational excellence in schools by providing leadership, administrative direction, supervision and technical support. We work side by side with school leaders to ensure that all schools make acceptable progress toward reaching district and school goals.


Adult Education

Registration and enrollment for Berkeley County Adult and Community Education runs throughout the year.  Whether you, or someone you know, left high school without earning the high school diploma, if you need to enhance your job-seeking skills, or if you need to enroll in English Language Improvement classes, the Berkeley County Adult and Community Education teachers and staff are ready to help you achieve your academic, career, and personal goals.

Child Nutrition

The Child Nutrition department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices. Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines.

Communications & Community Engagement

Berkeley County School District's Office of Communications & Community Engagement supports the District's strategic plan and works to empower and collaborate with the District's audiences – including parents, staff, and community partners – by sharing engagement opportunities and timely, clear and appropriate information.

Counseling Services

it is our mission to implement a comprehensive school counseling program to assist students, families, teachers, administrators and other school staff in facilitating and supporting student-driven learning experiences. Counselors align school counseling practices with the goals and South Carolina Comprehensive Developmental School Counseling Program.

Educator Effectiveness

The Office of Educator Effectiveness supervises the evaluation processes for all instructional employees in the district. Student learning is supported by providing quality mentoring for all new teachers, professional development for new and experienced teachers, and formal and informal evaluation programs designed to enhance the skills of all instructional employees.

Facilities & New Construction

The Operations Office of Berkeley County School District oversees capital projects and our maintenance/facilities office. As one of the fastest-growing school districts in South Carolina, a robust capital projects plan is necessary. Capital projects typically include but are not limited to new school construction and additions to existing schools and/or campuses.

Finance

The Office of Finance is responsible for fiscal responsibility. We see our role as supporting and collaborating with all the departments to provide a quality education for our children.  We have an experienced staff whose vision is centered on the 38,000+ children that we serve every day.


Head Start

Head Start is a free and federally funded program designed to promote school readiness for preschool children and families that meet income eligibility requirements. The program provides developmentally appropriate instruction and serves children between the ages of three and four. Applicants must be three years of age by September 1.

Human Resources

The primary goal of Human Resources is to recruit, retain and develop quality teachers, administrators, and staff. Inclusive Excellence & Student Support

We assist in the development and implementation of a framework designed to integrate quality, multicultural focused efforts to support a system of inclusive excellence; working collaboratively with various departments/divisions to recruit qualified, diverse candidates for various positions; leading and assisting with the development and growth of alternative pathways for student success; and connecting students, families, and staff with systems of support tailored to individual needs.

Nursing Services

Our Office of Nursing Services works closely with nurses at each of our schools on the implementation and management of student health services. It's also responsible for managing elements of the homebound program and the collection and filing of immunization records.




Procurement

The BCSD Office of Procurement is a division within our Office of Finance that manages procurement requests, award postings, procurement audits and protest decisions. It also oversees the use of District purchasing cards.





Professional Development & School Support

This office works to improve and sustain the professional growth of district employees through diverse learning opportunities that continue to support the goals of the district. We are dedicated to supporting the school communities and being a strategic partner to help increase the success of all students.

Pupil Services

The Office of Pupil Services is responsible for managing student attendance appeals, expulsions and the administration and implementation of school attendance lines. The office also oversees nursing services, security and emergency management, student transportation and district athletics. 

Security & Emergency Management

The safety and security of our students and staff is - and will continue to be - our highest priority. Each year BCSD plans and executes several large-scale crisis simulations. Those events are made possible by partnerships with local and national law enforcement. The goal -- to give teachers and administrators hands-on training in the area of Safety and Security.

Special Services

We consider it a privilege to serve our children with disabilities to accomplish the vision and mission of the Berkeley County School District. In collaboration with general education, we will make a positive difference one student, one family, one classroom, and one school at a time.

Student & Family Support

Our programs exist to serve the needs of students most in need of assistance and to support positive learning experiences that provide opportunity and enable success. Our social workers serve as liaisons between the home, school and community.

Technology

The BCSD OOT administers a large and dynamic network computing environment. We believe in technology innovation in education and are committed to providing high quality support and solutions for all users.

Testing & Accountability

The Office of Testing and Accountability provides multi-faceted support to BCSD as a whole and to its schools individually. Inherent in each facet of this department’s responsibility is an expectation for legal compliance, ethical behavior, accuracy, and unbiased reporting.

Transportation

We provide a cooperative, responsive and personal approach to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services. Our goal is to be a leader in the school transportation industry that will and serve as a model program that enriches the lives of students, schools and communities we serve.
