FBE student walking with her buddy

Hundreds of Berkeley County School District students brought the energy Thursday morning when they gathered at Stratford High for a day of fun.

Since 2022, the annual OneBerkeley United Games has helped tear down barriers and create awesome memories for students with special needs and their “buddies” from the general education classrooms.

This year, roughly 20 elementary schools turned out for this epic field day event that promotes inclusiveness and unity among all of BCSD’s students. VIEW PHOTOS

Followed by the Presentation of Colors with Stratford High’s JROTC students, visiting students helped lead the crowd in the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. Lt. David Coffey with the Goose Creek Police Department led the ceremonial lighting of the torch to kick off the rest of the festivities.

Schools rotated through different stations that included bean bag tossing, bowling, mini obstacle courses, bubble blowing and more. Stations were led by student leaders and athletes from Stratford High.

Did you know that Berkeley County voters passed a resolution in 2022 that benefits our ability to build and maintain schools? Commonly known as a "penny tax," the measure enacts a one-percent sales tax for specific construction projects.
