Welcome to the Howe Hall AIMS Art Studio

Dear Parents,

School is starting and excitement is in the air! As each school year begins to unfold, I feel the same eagerness as the children. My name is Mrs. Peggy Bennett and I will be your child’s art teacher. I promise to put my best effort forth so that “no artist is left behind.”    I am thrilled J to be returning for our ninth year of AIMS. It is exciting to be in a school where the arts are highly valued on their own and infused into daily instruction. Learning though art:

  •  Promotes creativity, problem solving and teamwork
  •  Provides opportunities for self-expression and self-discovery
  •  Creates a means to explore the history of cultures
  •  Nurtures the awareness and understanding of ethnic diversity

My instructional units are based on the South Carolina Standards for Art Education. During the year students will learn about art concepts, various cultures, artists, art periods and styles in art. They will acquire basic skills in ceramics, drawing, painting, weaving, printmaking and other art media.

Grades are based on an accumulation of points during the nine-week period. Completed projects will be formally assessed with rubrics or checklists and will be worth various points. Each quiz, writing assignment and reflection will be assigned a point value. Grades are based on the Berkeley County grading scale.

Art is a vital part of every child’s development, and your support will help foster creativity. Ask your child what day he/she has art and encourage him/her to tell you what we have been doing in class. Students will not need any special supplies for art. I strongly suggest that students not wear their best clothes on the day that we have art. Paint shirts are available and I encourage students to be careful, but occasionally students may accidentally get paint or other art materials on their clothing.

Thank you for your support of the art program. If you have any questions for me, please don’t hesitate to call me at school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Peggy Bennett, Art Teacher
